As you might of gathered, this week was another drought of artistic creativity. Frustratingly I find I have ideas, see inspiration or consider anatomy practice when I see a photo or picture or a few projects I wish to see through to the end so I can start others but annoyingly I have struggled to get the necessary willpower to pick up my pencil or tablet pen and work on something. What makes it worse, when I did finally get started on something earlier (typically about an hour before I was due to go out) I uncovered a slight problem in my current style. As I shamefully admitted to a few people a few weeks back, for a while I have been using the line smoothing and image rotation tools in Flash to help me get lines that didn't quite come out right the first time to look the way I wanted. I decided today to stop doing this and either re-draw the parts when I wasn't happy with it. On numerous occasions when I drew a head, I found there would be a portion that doesn't look right so I'd erase that part and try to join the two lines together, only for Flash to then decide, instead of making a nice smooth line, to make it jagged and crooked. I'd erase it (and parts of the line I wanted to keep), try again and wind up with the same - or worse - results. I then realised that perhaps with this style of drawing, Flash may not be the best bet after all. If I'm fighting with the program to fix a line, something I know full well I could do with ease on paper, and wind up either drawing the entire thing from scratch or have to rely on the smoothing tool to get it to look the way I want. It has been a goal of mine for a while to try and wean myself off Flash and perhaps switch to another program like Photoshop to make digital lines, perhaps relying more on drawing with pencil and paper to get the majority of the sketch done, even if it isn't all the minute detail. After today's uphill battle I'm thinking I need to focus on at least the latter more so I can perhaps finally move on. Hey ho, onwards and upwards. As with many things in life, once you know a problem exists you can find ways to fix it.

Also on another note, if you've ever wanted to ask me a question about me, my art, my interests by all means ask away :).

I'll also aim to do a proper update at some point next week, so for now I'll include the same features as last time, i.e. gifts, requests and commissions from other artists, as well as a few more that got overlooked first time around

Oh? :iconchitandacuriousplz:

Well I can say that I've never tried using Flash before,
so I'm not sure how it's supposed to work for making line art.

The program I'm currently using is Autodesk Sketchbook. :iconyea-plz:

I don't know how much it might cost though,
because I'm only using the free version that came with my tablet. :iconpachuuplz:

The program itself works like a charm.
However, the free version doesn't have a curve tool for lines, among a few other missing features.

I do all of my curved lines free hand though, so it doesn't quite bother me. :iconheleavesplz:

But if your looking for a simple program that operates more conveniently than GIMP, and isn't as complicated as SAI,
then Autodesk Sketchbook might be worth a shot.

On the other hand, doing the sketches by hand is certain to be a lot more natural, and therefore quicker to an extent.
It's just that digital media gives you the luxury of undoing your mistakes without ruining anything from erasing too much. :iconokie3plz:

Anyway, I suggest redoing those certain parts that you are unhappy with,
as opposed to only erasing small portions and stitching them back together with line tools.

Not only will the result look slightly more natural,
but it also will help you develop a method for drawing those portions accurately in the first place. :iconyuiswayplz:

Okay, I know I probably filled more of this page than the journal,
so hopefully none of it just comes across as nonsensical rambling~ :iconsmile-luplz:
