Gift Art - Ysemea

Description

The second of my Gift Art pictures, this time the lovely Ysemea, created by the equally lovely kaeveris :D. I've been a fan of this character for a while and have enjoyed seeing the Ysemea's Adventures comic series kaeveris is working on. I highly recommend going to read it when you get a moment.

To critiquers and constructive commenters :

1. Outside of the "sausage fingers" and perhaps them being stiff and unbending, would you say there are any issues with the hands? Do you think I got the size right.

2. Do you feel the breasts hang a little too low? While it made sense to me that they would due to their size and shape, I also felt I may have had them hang a little too low, especially when compared to how kaeveris has drawn them.

3. Do you also feel the upper stage right thigh is a little too thick? How do the rest of the limbs look?

4. What do you think of the tweaks I made to the pose vs how I originally drew it in Gift Art - Ysemea (Traditional)? I felt having the hands closer worked better for a spell casting pose and that the arm on the first version was too far back and in an unnatural fashion. Do you agree with this?

5. I wanted the background to be something basic and simple, as opposed to the "blank" backgrounds I used to do and I am curious to know your thoughts on how it turned out. Do you have any suggestions for other, simple backgrounds, especially for ones that can be made with Clip Studio Paint?

6. What are you thoughts on the visual effects I did for her hands? I'll admit they didn't quite turn out the way I wanted, because I recently switched to Clip Studio. If you are familiar it, do you have any tips and tutorials you can give to help me learn more about what I can do with it?

7. What are your thoughts on the shading? It made sense to me having the glowing effect of her magic serve as her light source and while I could see that there would be minimal shadows in the vicinity around the hands, I struggled with areas like the upper head and lower waist. What are your thoughts on this and how would you have handled shading in the areas that were further away from her hands?

Hello pawcanada :)

First of all, I like how graceful her posture is without being just plain thin.
The colors you choose, green and blue, give to me a mystical vibe.
Suits a magical elven lady as herself pretty well I think :)
Also, the hair design is lovely :D
Almost seems like an attribute of some kinda armor.
Stylish but functional for someone being in (magical) battles

About the hands, the size seems right to me.
And yes the fingers are a bit sausagy like you said yourself :)
Just a tiny indication of joints would make it already better.

What seems most of tho, not only the left upper leg,
is that the whole left of her body is larger and has more volume.
This would make sense if her body would be turned more to her left,
if we would be facing this leg and arm, but it is not.
Her left arm is also larger and longer than her right.
and her crotch area seems to be off center.

The breasts do not seem to be to low but because the underline is drawn out,
the shape seems unnatural.
Clothes do not tend to stick that much to a body shape.
Just a tiny bit of an indication and a bit of shade would be already enough.

I like the changes in the pose you made.
Did not dislike the other either tho.
This one makes her feel more focused and concentrated as if she is charging.
The other seemed more physical.

The spell effect on her hand looks nice.
I like that you choose a light yellow tone for it as it gives this kind of serene idea.
The white yellow and then more saturated could be a blended better I think.
The glow does not cast on any part of the rest of her body which a pity I find.
Could have made such a great ambiance :)

The shading is not too bad but does not add much either.
If it would be not a grey scale shade on an overlay layer but one with a bit of tint it would give more interesting effects.
And with such a subject some more daring shades but also highlight to counter them,
would do great things.

Overall I like the character design :)
Her coloring and her pose.
Some attention to the balance of limbs and such would do you good.
Maybe some playing around with a model program like designdoll would be fun for you to try?
It gives a better insight into perspective and dimension and also makes you understand how light sources get cast upon a figure :)

Hope my babbling has been of some use for you!
Have a nice weekend :)
